Susan, one of my participants in Sydney sent me this e.mail about her experiences with the Sydney optometrists she visited.
“Hello Leo,
Susan Kinson here. I was in the vision therapy group that finished last night, February 6. What a wonderful course this is. I've had no discernible difference in actual vision but my eyes are absolutely popping with excitement about the near future. No more specs! Ye ha!
Today I went searching for an optometrist to change my spectacle prescription to a lower range. The glasses I am now wearing hurt my eyes even before I did your course but the optometrist kept telling me it was because I would not allow myself to adjust to the bifocals and other equally insulting nonsense. I was most naive when I trotted off to the first optometrist to request the lowering of my lens prescription. Seventy five million optometrists later I can no longer lay claim to being naive. I've outright lied, thrown hissy fits, burst into tears (yeah, okay, I confess - it was crocodile tears but the situation was desperate), hopped up and down pretending to be a lunatic (I heard exactly what you thought then Leo Angart! Be nice.), even attempted what I felt to be a rather grand Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth impersonation. All of this after telling the simple truth had failed at the first sixty five million visits. No one will change the lens without first doing an eye test and this is a pointless exercise as I will merely end up again with the same prescription.
So, my question is...do you know of a Bogart type optometrist who will meet me at midnight on whatever corner specified and take charge of changing my specs? I promise on my honour not to spill to the Feds, to resist any and all torture and never, ever under any circumstances reveal your name. I suspect the Feds might be on to me anyway as my first two emails to you disappeared with absolutely no trace. I will protect your identity with fierce integrity.“
As Susan experienced high street optometrists are unlikely to be open to prescribe lens power than what they measure. The rule is that you choose the frames and they choose the lenses. However, behavioural optometrists are more open to prescribing lower lens power that what the measurement shows. They are also more likely to permit you to find the lowest range of your vision by trying different lenses before you decide which ones are right for you.
Here is Susan's latest e-mail
Hello Leo in Munich,
Of course you may use my e-mail. Finally I am to be a published author, albeit an almost blind author thanks to the severe dearth of Leo Angarts here in Sydney. I am considering beginning a revolution. Bugger freeing Tibet and Burma, let's incarcerate all optometrists for the remainder of their unnatural lives and bring in the La's. There must be more of you in Munich. Once the revolution begins I shall organise a cloning of La's so that the general populace will be able to learn how to see who it is they are arresting.
Hope you like the idea of being King of the Free The Eyesight Revolution.
Oh, and thank you for the list. I shall begin work on that immediately, before my binocular spectacles break from the weight of all those dipoters.
Hmmm...I hear heavy knocking on my door. It's sure to be the CIA and I still don't have a blasted trench coat.
Enjoy Munich and your fabulous job.
Regards,
Susan Kinson
Remember we are normally going for 20/30 which is about 10 to 15% lower than 20/20 prescription.
Sometimes 100% correction is expressed in metric terms as 6/6 or in decimal terms as 1.0. We do not recommend that you wear lenses that are lower than what is legal for driving (20/40)( 6/12) or( 0.5).
We have done some homework and can recommend the following optometrists if you want to reduce your prescription.
Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth
Contact lenses on-line
If you just want contact lenses with lower prescription you can purchase most brands on-line. In order to purchase contact lenses on-line you need to know the diameter of your eyes, the base curve and the dioptre power you want. It looks like this on your prescription. Remember, that in most cases you can leave any astigmatism correction out. That actually makes it much easier.

Glasses on-line
You can also purchase many different types of glasses on line as well. The important thin here is to know the distance between your eyes.

Reading glasses
These are easy to get in many drug stores where they are displayed on a rack and you can just try them on. It is important to have both eyes the same or nearly the same since the cheap reading glasses are made with only one power on both sides.
